Highly anticipated game + Draconian DRM = A lot of pissed gamers

Ok, so the reviewers we just mentioned are gamers on Amazon.com but 45 of them gave Spore a 1/5. The reason? They are mad as hell about the DRM employed by the game, and they are not going to take it any more...

EA's DRM policy allows only three activations per game. So what if a gamer needs to install the game for a fourth time? "If you reach that limit, then you'll have to call EA in order to add one extra activation. That's not as simple as it sounds, since when you reach that point EA will assume that you, the paying customer, are a filthy pirating thief. You will need to provide proof of purchase, reasons why the limit was reached, etc, etc (it has all happened before with another recent EA product, Mass Effect). EA, of course, is not obligated to grant you that extra activation or even provide that service" -- bemoans a user on Amazon.com.

A DRM (Digital Rights Management) policy is a publisher's answer to piracy but such a policy almost always turns out to be a bane for us gamers. What's your take on DRM?

Unfortunately, the best features of the game are its online play-for which you cannot use a pirated copy as they'll validate license before letting you connect. Expect more and more games to go the online way to beat piracy, from now on.
