Till sometime back, one of the most common electronic gadgets one would associate with nature are speakers with wooden casings. Then at CeBit 2008 held in March, Asus unveiled its new Concept bamboo products. Now, the company has officially launched its Bamboo Series Notebook.

The notebook will be available in two sizes - 12.1-inch and 11.1-inch. The 12.1-inch bamboo laptop is powered by Intel Core2 Duo (DDR2 800 MHz SDRAM), while the latter houses an Intel Core Duo processor (DDR2 667 MHz SDRAM).

Here are the detailed specifications of the Bamboo notebooks:

Both variants will feature a 0.3 megapixel camera, 8-in-1 card reader, and Windows Vista.

The bamboo-clad notebook is quite stylish-looking and at the same time claims to be eco-friendly as well. The notebook claims to conserve energy by automatically monitoring and adjusting power usage. Additionally, users can also manually set the notebook's power levels from the presets provided.

Further, according to Asus, this product is green throughout every phase of its life - from its conception, production, and use to its eventual recycling and disposal.

The notebook sports artisan-grade Moso bamboo paneling. It also features genuine bamboo fiber patterns on the touch pad, says the company.

While it may look classy, there are questions that enthusiasts and observers are concerned about. Questions like, what sort of glue they use for sticking the bamboo panels and whether they are non-toxic.
