Satyam is now trying its hands in the healthcare industry with the launch of a mobile healthcare program targeted at the rural population of the country.

The program, known as '104 Mobile', is a public/private partnership between the government of the Indian state of Andhra Pradesh and Satyam. It will provide basic healthcare for residents of remote areas of Andhra Pradesh, located more than 3 kms from public health service providers. This program is integrated with the Emergency Management Research Institute's (EMRI) 'Call 108'.

Under this program, healthcare vans, or Mobile Health Units (MHU), will visit villages on designated days to provide healthcare services to rural Indians, many of whom have never been seen by medical professionals before. The Mobile 104 vehicles will be equipped with paramedics, pharmacists, lab technicians and will be able to store blood or urine samples for testing.

The services they will provide include pre- and post-natal checkups, height and weight monitoring, nutritional supplements for mothers and children, basic blood and urine lab investigations and screening, healthcare advice and medicine dispensation for chronic illnesses such as diabetes, hypertension, epilepsy and anemia. In case of emergencies, an ambulance will be summoned via EMRI (Call 108) to take the patient to hospital.

For this service, Satyam plans to deploy 475 vehicles by November and cover 50,000 rural villages. Each vehicle will be able to visit approximately 56 villages every month.

Moreover, this program is web-enabled; patients can communicate with the call center via phone, fax, chat, SMS or email. Medical information is uploaded to hospitals, enabling immediate follow-up and tracking on a daily basis. Read more.
