Recently we reported that the computer mouse would soon become extinct with new human-computer interaction technologies cropping up. Looks like Microsoft is thinking along similar lines too. Check out the announcement on the Microsoft Hardware page which says '9.9.08 - Say Good Bye to Laser'. What does this mean? We'll have to wait until Microsoft reveals more than this teaser.

In an interesting development, an Italian site has revealed details about the MS Explorer Mini Mouse, which includes blue optical sensor based tracking technology called BlueTrack. Based on blue LED technology combined with wide-angle lens, BlueTrack is expected to offer better accuracy and acceleration on various surfaces such as wood, granite or a carpet, where existing laser and optical mice would be unable to work. The BlueTrack tracking mouse will capture four times larger area.

Eventually, Microsoft is targeting the portable computing segment with this mouse. We'll have to wait for the September 9 announcement to see what it means for India in terms of price and availability.
