The guys over at bit-tech bring us first impressions of the Xbox 360 case replacemet from Lian Li
Remember that crazy case replacement for the Xbox 360 from Lian Li? Called the PC-XB01, the case was a DIY replacement which would house the internals of an Xbox 360 console. With dimensions of 160 x 250 x 415, and a 120mm fan running at 1500RPM along with aluminium ducts, it was designed to run the 360 cooler; it even had an option for for silent cooling using water-cooling solutions.
If you have been wondering just how the case looks outside of marketing material, bit-tech has you covered. The site has put up an unboxing and first-impressions of the Lian Li XB01. Here are some points of interest from the article:
- The case comfortably fits under one arm
- The case is 'very susceptible' to finger prints
- The front section of the case is one giant grill to allow air inflow
- bit-tech raised some concern over build quality of hatches
- Without a game in the drive the 'Xbox is finally, truly silent'
While bit-tech haven't reviewed the case mod yet, they do say that as soon as you drop a game DVD into the drive, the entire unit starts its jet-engine impression again -- something all Xbox 360 owners are familiar with. Looks like a truly silent solution will only come after Microsoft drops in that fall update and the install-to-hard-drive feature, along.
