Intel Launches Motherboard for Nettops
Techtree News Staff, Aug 20, 2008 1800 hrs ISTThe made-for-nettops motherboard - Desktop Board D945GCLF2 "Essential Series" - features the low-power 45nm dual-core Intel Atom 330 microprocessor, and is targeted at entry-level or first-time users.
At the Intel Developers Forum, Intel has announced a mini-ITX format Desktop Board D945GCLF2 "Essential Series" specifically designed for nettops. This motherboard features all new low-power 45nm dual-core Intel Atom 330 microprocessor with 1.6GHz clock speed and 533 MHz system bus. Apart from that, the board integrates Intel 945GC Express Chipset with built-in Intel Graphics Media Accelerator 950 and supports up to 2GB DDR2-533/667Mhz SDRAM in single slot.
In addition, the board also features PCI expansion slot, supports two SATA ports (3 GB/s), eight High-Speed USB 2.0 ports, S-video connector, supports, up to two ATA 66/100 devices with IDE connector, 6-channel Front panel HD Audio along with integrated stereo audio and an integrated 10/100/1000 Mb/s Ethernet LAN connectivity.
With the mini-ITX form factor and backward compatible with ATX/MicroATX allows OEMs to come up with energy-efficient solutions with small chassis. Also the Atom 330 processor is expected to work at 1.6GHz clock for low-power computing, which should be ideal for nettops.
Built for nettops, in other words - entry-level low-cost Internet-centric desktops, the motherboard is targeted towards entry-level or first-time users, second computing system buyers, Internet kiosks, thin clients or Point of Sale systems.
Although we have no further details on price, we do know the motherboard will be available worldwide in September.
