Early reports point towards doubling data transfer speeds (up to 6 GBPS), advanced for data streaming and better power management.
It's raining version 3.0! Soon after the announcement of USB 3.0 specs, here we are with details regarding SATA 3.0. Early specifications for the connection standard have been announced and the SATA-IO group expects the final specifications for SATA Revision 3.0 to be finalized by the end of the year.
Early reports point towards doubling data transfer speeds (up to 6 GBPS) and will include what the IO group calls "advanced for data streaming" and "better power management." Details on how exactly this will be achieved have not been revealed yet.
As with USB 3.0, SATA 3.0 too remains backward compatible with older devices and will even use the same cables. Upgrading your PC soon? Go right ahead! It will be quite a while before both SATA 3.0 and USB 3.0 reach mainstream devices.
