Research indicates that Indians love visiting entertainment, gaming, and music websites using their cellphones
Entertainment-themed websites are the most popular with mobile Internet users in the growing Brazil, Russia, India and China (BRIC) mobile markets according to the latest Nielsel report. It stands in stark contrast with the more mature American and European markets, where information and news draw the most mobile Internet browsers.
According to the report, entertainment, gaming, and music websites rank among the top five categories visited in all four BRIC countries, but do not have a place among the top US and Europe rankings.
The findings suggest that mobile Internet users across BRIC countries are more reliant on mobile phones to provide them with entertainment content, whereas users across the United States and Europe view their devices as a resource for information. E-mail, weather, news, and search are the top categories for both American and European mobile Internet users.
Jeff Herrmann, vice president of mobile media at Nielsen, feels that the reason for low popularity of entertainment content in U.S. and Europe mainly has to do with the easily available specialized devices like iPods and also with the fact that even those markets have had access to media and entertainment since long.
Though, at 1.8% India is trailing far behind other countries but Herrmann feels that even at this rate the 'development and uptake of mobile data services will have a tremendous positive impact on economies like Brazil, Russia, India and China'.
