Yeah, everyone's been going crazy over the iPhone's touchscreens. So can gamers be far behind? A PSP modder jube808, has modded PSP with DIY touchscreen function. His project, named Pspzproject, aims to bring full touchscreen support to the handheld, along with increased battery life and a re-designed control pad.

Check the videos of touchscreen PSP here and here.

The videos clearly show his keyboard application which can be used via finger or stylus. While PSP owners are excited about news of the touchscreen functionality, homebrew developers are waiting for the code to be shared with them soon. On the other hand, a bunch of critics doubt if PSP will be turned to Nintendo's DS with touchscreen.

Last week, a PSP phone mod was reported by Just Another Mobile phone blog in which the modder had removed PSP's UMD drive and fixed a Haier mobile phone with a touchscreen at the back. Checkout the modded PSP phone's photos here.

With modders trying to bring in customized functionality they need in gaming consoles, we think it's high time console makers addressed these needs. Of course, the cost factor needs to be taken into consideration too.
