The Star Trek universe is ready to beam on to everyone's computers through a massively multiplayer online role-playing game called Star Trek Online. Revealed through a webcast during the 2008 Star Trek convention in Las Vegas, we now get a first-glimpse of the game's engine and gameplay through a trailer; just released.

A unique feature of the game is that it allows you to create your own race to play as. You can also play as the captain of your own starship, upgrade and customize your ship, recruit and train your crew and use them as cannon fodder for away team missions. Space battles and planetary explorations form the core gameplay.

Jack Emmert, chief creative officer of Cryptic Studios (the same folks who gave us City of Heroes/Villains) gushed about the game: "There's going to be tons of space to investigate. We have a great system for exploration, which will allow for almost infinite possibilities."

Sounds savvy, we are ready to beam up.
