Build & Design
The Nokia E71 has an awesome build quality and a new look. The phone sports a lot of metal over it, which makes it sturdy and the chrome finishing on the metal gives the phone a very classy look. With such a build, the phone can easily take a couple of falls but be ready to see a few scratches. The build of the E71 also gives you a steady grip while using it.
The phone weighs just 127gm as compared to the previous E61i that weighed 150 gm. This phone though does feel a little bulky, especially because of the extra chin at the lower end of the phone. If you place the E71 beside an E61i you can most certainly spot the extra chin.

The face of the phone sees a large earpiece right at the top. On one side there is a 3G video camera while on the other side is a light sensor that helps maintain auto screen brightness.
Lower down you get the large screen, which is unfortunately smaller than the previous one but sports the same resolution. The D-Pad section below is well sorted out and it's easy to hit any of the buttons. These buttons have dual uses with standard presses and long key presses and it's easier to access various functions.

The QWERTY keypad below is even more refined. Even though the keys seem a bit smaller than the E61i, they are very comfortable. I did a lot of typing and I could thumb my way through a long email without too much effort. The extra chin below, even though it makes the phone a little longer, provides a much better grip over the phone. This is noticeable when you are typing in a hurry.

The sides of the phone have couple of ports and buttons. The left side sees a micro USB port and the microSD card slot neatly tucked behind a very flexible rubber cover. While the other side has the volume controls, the 2.5mm audio jack and a voice command button. The 2.5mm jack is a bit too exposed for my liking; I feel it will collect dust and there is also the possibility of moisture entering it.
