    Zotac 9800GTX+ Amp Edition

Roydon Cerejo, Aug 08, 2008 1605 hrs IST

The so-called Radeon 4850 killer is here. Can it really slay it or will it be the other way around?

Good cooling, CUDA and PhysX support, 55nm, Hybrid power support.

No performance benefit over the 9800GTX, Doesn't over-clock further, A bit pricey.

-Now that the HD4850 has hit the street with a very tempting launch price, everyone seems to have forgotten the little 'green' giant. But that doesn't mean NVIDIA will take this lying down. They are working very hard in order to win back their customers and have launched a product that should put them right back on track to be the number one budget performance king.

The Zotac 9800GTX+ is all set to rival ATI's HD4850 with a very healthy 750MHz core speed and memory clocked at 2300MHz. Moreover, it marks NVIDIA's entry into the 55nm arena, as this is the first GeForce to use the smaller fabrication process.

However, will this be enough to take the crown from ATI? I guess we'll have an answer to that in a while once we're done testing the card. So without wasting time, let's check out the specification and the bundle Zotac has to offer.

Specifications

Even though this is the Amp edition, the core doesn't seem to be clocked very high and is just about 2% higher compared to the reference clocks from NVIDIA. The memory is clocked at 2300MHz which gives you a theoretical jump of 5%. The rest of the features include PCI-E 2.0, DVI audio, CUDA and PhysX support, Hybrid Power, etc.

The primary difference between the two cards is the 55nm fabrication process. Though GPU-Z doesn't say so, we verified that this card is indeed a 55nm variant. Apart from this there isn't any difference at all between the two cards apart from maybe slightly higher clocks.
