Gamers are reporting free multiplayer for cross-platform Xbox 360 titles. Could this be the first-step to a completely free LIVE?

UPDATE: We have confirmation on this news. Xbox Live will offer free multiplayer for select titles, until Fall. With Fall will come the Fall update, which will bring the new dashboard and take away the free multiplay. This makes us believe that the cross-multiplayer "free" currently on, is more a bug, than a feature. A bug that will be fixed with the fall updage. So, no free Live for us.

It seems that Xbox 360 games which offer multiplayer across the PC and the 360 platforms might be moving to completely free muliplayer, regardless of Silver or Gold LIVE membership. This comes after Games for Windows LIVE was announced as free. A gamer reports that free multiplayer gameplay now works for cross-platform titles such as Shadowrun, Lost Planet: Extreme Condition Colonies Edition, and Universe at War: Earth Assault.

Could this be the first step towards a completely free LIVE setup?

Well let us put it this way ..we already pay for our ISP connection on the computer,we already pay for MS Points to buy the games we want from Xboxlive Marketplace,,why, oh, why do we also have to keep paying for the priviledge of using MY Xbox360 which I PAID for not Microsoft???????????????? get my drift, or am I being obtuse ?!?!

It would be the biggest and best news in console wars if it turns out to be true. Finally Microsoft should give Xbox Live completely free.
