Joystiq reports that after having denied rumours of Peggle being launched for the Nintendo DS, PopCap has finally decided to launch a version of Peggle for Nintendo DS later this year.

During his keynote presentation at CGA Seattle yesterday, PopCap CEO David Roberts provided an early glimpse of the DS version of Peggle, which is expected to hit North American retail shelves in Winter 2008.

For those who are unaware and might be wondering what the fuss is all about, Peggle is a Mac, Windows and iPod downloadable game from PopCap Games. Each level of Peggle features a colorful 2D background filled with different colored "pegs". The objective in each level is to clear all of the orange pegs by hitting them with a ball shot from the top of the screen.

It has been reported as one of the top 5 "most addictive games" of all times and the DS family seems to be pretty excited about the prospective launch. What's more, the DS version is reportedly getting unique features that are not available in the existing PC, Mac or iPod versions of the game. PopCap has partnered with Q Entertainment, the acclaimed Japanese development studio to adapt the game for the DS. Q Entertainment is already working on the adaptation of Peggle and David Roberts hopes the upcoming version will satisfy existing fans of the game and attract a new audience of on-the-go gamers who appreciate the DS for its one-of-a-kind display format and other unique capabilities.
