Popular social networking site Facebook has introduced its service, Facebook Connect, back in May to help users share their profile data on other Web sites across the Internet. Now, the service seems to be ready to kick-start as it was formally introduced and demonstrated at Facebook's f8 developer conference in San Francisco.

The demonstration included the depiction of how exactly Friend Connect will work with Digg, Citysearch, and Six Apart.

At the conference, Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg described the Facebook Connect service as "our version of Facebook for the rest of the Web."

Interestingly, Facebook users will be able to choose the data, photos and other information that they wish to share with people outside Facebook through this new service. Users will be able to use the same privacy settings for Facebook Connect, just as they do in Facebook.

According to Zuckerberg, Facebook Connect is expected to be available this October. In the mean time, developers can work with the Facebook Connect "sandbox".

Facebook Connect would be competing with Myspace's "MySpace Data Availability service."
