After staying put at the Gigabyte storage for a couple of years, Seagate has upped the ante and announced the Barracuda 7200.11 1.5 TB desktop hard drive. We haven't yet got our hands on one, but we do expect this inflated capacity drive to perform similar to its 1 TB predecessor.

After missing out to be the first one to bring out the Terabyte hard drive, Seagate has finally pulled off a first - they have just announced the world's first 1.5TB desktop hard drive. This is a Barracuda 7200.11
series hard drive featuring a better areal density of the drive substrate, thanks to perpendicular magnetic recording technology and a rotational speed of 7,200 RPM. The 3.5 inch hard drive features four 375GB platters and we expect it to perform similar to the other 7200.11 series drives. These are slated for an August release and we will have a review ready as soon as we get our hands on one of these.
