The device
Epson Stylus Photo RX690 is a colour inkjet multifunction printer with a grey and black plastic body, which does not particularly look attractive. The overall build seems good though it looks big and weighs 10.6 kg.

It features piezoelectric printing technology with 6 cartridges for economy and better colour reproduction. It is therefore expected to be a good option for photo printing. As you can see above, the USB cable has to be connected internally by opening the cartridge bay. The advantage here is that there is little possibility of the cable getting accidentally unplugged.

This MFD features two input trays and can accept a total of 300 sheets of A4 paper. The vertical rear tray accepts paper face up and the leading edge inside, while the front horizontal tray at the bottom of the device, accepts paper face down with the leading edge inside. Having two trays is useful when you are frequently working with two types of paper, so you can place photo paper in one tray, and the regular paper in the other. You may not want to use photo paper in the front input tray because the paper gets rolled too much. The output tray is situated just above the front input tray. This printer also features CD and DVD printing. A CD/DVD printing tray on the left comes out when this printing mode is selected. A back door lets you clear paper jams if and when they occur.
