Build & Design

The Samsung Pebble as mentioned in the intro isn't one of the ordinary DVD players available. It sports a cute design compared to the contemporary design we've seen over the years. The Pebble's basic design is a compact square with rounded edges that doesn't really make it look like a Pebble. To me it seemed more like an enlarged button picked from arcade world. Nevertheless we can't take away the fact that it does look cute and can add some fancy to your sitting in an open wall-unit beside a large LCD. Its high gloss finish and strip of chrome really add to its looks. There are buttons that are touch-sensitive on the player but towards the front. The buttons are a little raised over the gloss body and I feel that they could have been embedded with backlight LEDs. The buttons present on the player include an eject button along with the power and playback buttons. The player beeps as a reaction to touch of any button. The power ON/OFF button has an LED just beside it and glows red when in standby and blue when switched ON.

The chrome strip up front is from where the CD-tray of the player releases. Having all design in mind Samsung here could seriously implement a slot-loading system and more over considering that Samsung optical drives do face problems with their tray over time, it'd been more than apt.
