Both Vodafone and Airtel have started pre-registration for the iPhone 3G on their respective Web sites.
All those eagerly awaiting the India launch of Apple's iPhone 3G can now make sure they get their hands on the device soon after its launch -- by booking their piece online.
Both Vodafone and Airtel have started pre-registration for the iPhone 3G on their respective Web sites. However, both companies have said nothing about when the iPhone will be launched. All they've managed to reveal is that it would be coming later this year. Yet, speculation is rife that India can expect the iPhone 3G sometime in September this year.
It would be worth mentioning here that while both Vodafone and Airtel are allowing consumers to pre-register for iPhone 3G, the Indian government is yet to finalize matters regarding 3G telephony in the country. Possibly, this is one of the reasons why Vodafone and Airtel are keeping mum on the date of launch.
What's certain is that the iPhone is coming to India. So while most of you wait with bated breath for the famed gizmo, let us take you through some of its main highlights. iPhone 3G marries all of the features of the iPhone plus 3G networking to be touted as "twice as fast as the first-generation iPhone". iPhone 3G also features built-in GPS for expanded location-based mobile services, iPhone 2.0 software with support for Microsoft Exchange ActiveSync, and compatibility with third-party applications built with the iPhone SDK (software development kit).
Ok I will make my first online confession. I have a habit of changing mobiles very often and I really do spend loads of money on this habit. No matter which mobile I buy from mid to high end segment, I get bored from them after some time and change but now I really hope this iPhone can make me hooked on to it forever.
actually no-one but apple knows the correct date.As far as the price is concerned,I dont think the availability of this phone around 10k to 12K is correct, service providers not yet fixed the actual cost for this phone and additionaly what one have to pay on monthly basis to the provider is unknown. We will be tied up with the service provider minimum for 2 years,no freedom to switch over even you wish to,or else you loose your money. In open market the price of this unlocked phone is around 28k-30k.(US$700-800).So we have to wait and see the actual handy price + the terms & conditions of the provider.
i read in newspaper the prices are goin to be same...200usd~300usd...
ie just 8000~12000 IRS....
meanwhile just had a go @ a hacked piece.mindblowing!!!
wait for well over a year and it will b still worthy......
even if u dont wish to buy the iphone.wait till it is released....and nokia will b forced 2 slash prices abt 3.5k...
No man... The 200-300 u.s.d is a subsidised price by ATnT and all... Those companies can cover up their prices through their call charges.
But in India, the price cannot be subsidised... Most probably, the price will be more than 20,000. then u should go for N95 instead, cuz its more compatible.
But if in any case, the price is 200-300usd... then one can go for it without further adeu...
Awsome stuff..too lste for apple to get it in india..tech freaks already got one in thr hand...No point being LAW lover appl (Steve Jobs)...Be more like Gates who took law in his hands and is now relishing as a philanthrophist...Like Windows u shud have made i-phone reach every mobile user by now..nyways its better late then never...n it wud b gr8 if u overruled the copyrt stuff n allowed easy n fast transfer...well anyways ur puttin cover over the songs and ringtones by itunes makes no difference...We manage to crack, hack n deliver nytin nywher...so be swift n open not for law of the land but for the Users...Coz we r real law.. lol..hope to see the 3G ver soon..
I think now this is too late for I-Phone to be in india. Persons who loves technology want such thing as things are in market or as soon as they know about the things. Now it seems I-Phone is not so hot for technology lovers. In between the person those love I-Phone have already a cracked version of I-Phone. We are very LATE... to be a I-Phone user.
The iPhone you'hv been waiting for. Coming soon on Vodafone. To book, sms IPHONE to 56789 or log on to vodafone.in/ and they will update you soon regarding the Price and Availability of it in Indian market. The basic information they want to book your iPhone is Your Name, Email-id, Your Mobile no. and Location. Vodafone is published a Advt. in leading newspaers regarding this. In fight for launching iPhone first in India before Bharati Airtel, they won the fight. It was speculated that Vodafone is going to launch iPhone only in December end and Bharat Airtel will launch near around Diwal festival to woo customer. But as it seems Vodafone is started booking from today, so Bharati is lacking behind only. With this Vodafone already ended many speculation whether Apple is going to launch iPhone 3G or the older version. iPhone 3G will be avilable in India in 8Gb and 16 Gb version. The date for new iPhone worlwide release is 11th July. May be they will launch iPhone 3G in India on same date.
I am using iPhone. This is one of the junk phone I have seen. It does not allow u blue tooth to connect to any phone. Do not allow ringtones. Even downloading songs and videos is great difficult, it has to be done through same PC every time otherwise all the content will be erased.
Even when other nokia/motorola phone show full signal iPhone show no signal...
The audio quality is very bad.
The only features I liked are ....
1. Touch screen is really good
2. Display is good
3. For browsing this is the best phone.
4. Respond time is very fast
I think this is my best phone ever. I use to all the time for browsing and listening.
You can download the songs from multiple computers but you need to transfer the already existing data from the phone to that computer first--this is a pain. I don't care about blut tooth
Pre-resgitering the Iphone by Vodafone or airtel is mearly (especially through SMSes) is to charge each customer 3 Rs.. its not only a single person who is smsing but a mass.. which means whether the Iphone is launched today, tomo or anyday ..even if not.. we ppl are so sos crusious that we send smses and these companies earn money :)
Iphone though seems good, cool and classy ... lets jst wait and watch when it is launched
this is a drawback,It does not have bluetooth to send receive files but bluetooth is there to connect headset.for MMS need to download third party softeware. Email is easy to configure.
According to my knowledge, iPhone #G version released for sale by 11 july in many countries. Hope by 11 july it would be in india also. Price may be Rs14000 to Rs 18000. It do not cross the limit of Rs18000/- if they make it popular in INDIA.
See any new phone or gadget has its initial wave if supported with proper distribution and availibilty..definitely the price point might sensitise it towards the higher end of the market only and hence may not have the mass appeal initially i guess..
I think thats a smart move from the biz point of view but at the same time it has to still undergo o user aacceptance test under indian conditions u see !
Sound great, I'm also waiting for the 3g iPhone, it will be interesting to see, and as it have business-friendly features and official third-party software apps.
Iphone is a beautiful, sleek, w/ great user interface, piece of shit phone.....
Apple added web browsing and mp3 to a mobile phone..... OOOOOhhhhhh..... My god...... its a heck of a device...... duh.... my phones have been doing it for years.......
just one quick note in the end..... you go out to eat chicken wings, your hands are smeared with barbecue sauce, and your phone rings, would you rather have an iphone in your pocket or a regular phone with keypad.....
Well i booked iphone from OPTUS stores Melbourne and it is about to launch. i think on 11th july.
And i have to pay 220$ Australian dollars for the phone. so better ask someone to but a phone for you from Australia or America.
Don't expect it to be so low.....Each of them will be priced around 20k that is if you stay with the operator for 1 year...thats the catch if you are getting for even the lower price. Just don't convert the price in US to India Rupees...Still the itouch costs a lot in India.
Alien, you have poor English language skills and am assuming you learnt from an English school for atleast 10 years. Do something to improve that first than spend money on gadgets.
Angrez, You better follow your own advice about learning proper English. There is no such word as "atleast". Go join 5th graders in your school; or may be a different school this time. :-).
I think the Iphone is an overhyped gadget. Discouting the fancy touchscreen (which is really good), who in India would want to spend such a large amt of money on a phone which has no video camera, no FM radio support and would possibly increase your monthly telephone bills as mobile operators charge you the privilege of using the phone!!
iphone sucks, it has cool UI and is fast...thats it. If you want have flexibility to have lot of cool apps/features don't buy it..more over you can't use third party accessories.Keeps freezing...very delicate.
there is no payment needed for the pre-registration u just have to provide them with the details like mail id, phone no. etc...
u can register in their (airtel, vodafone) respective websites...
The iPhone should be a killer. But I just hope it doesn't become common and hence down market. It's a cool phone and hope it can retain its character. Hope Airtel and Vodafone launch limited quantity of the iPhone and don't flood the Indian market with the stunning phone.
I am using iPhone, but I did not face any issue with related to voice quality at all.
Yes, There is a limitation with trasferring your files(contacts/ring tones/images etc) via bluetooth(it does not have IR).
We have to use itunes to transfer any content into iPhone and its not neccessary that you have to connect to same computer/laptop every time, if we use manual option.
it is worth of buying it as it has a very good quality Display, Touchscreen, huge store space 8 gb/16 gb,you can check your Pop/Exchange mails using GPRS/Wi-fi, Safari Browser is simply great.
And I dont think Apple is doing to allow to copy/transfer files directly usign bluetooth near future. So people who are going to buy should know this first.
This is for A R -Why do you buy a phone if you're not going to use its features? Oh, right, I forgot, it was to show off that you can afford the same phone that half the planet is drooling over.
If someone's asking about bluetooth support, it's pretty obvious he wants that feature, or has a bluetooth headset to use it with!!
are you allowed to use any of your songs as ringtones now? I remember reading that the earlier iPhone did not allow you to do so, among many other shortcomings.
iphone 3g...will it be subsidized by any of the two carriers? Does India even have a contract system like we do in USA? NO Contract means high price for the phone at about 499.00 USD on 8gb and 599.00 on the 16gb. USA has low price on iphone coz its going to be subisidized by ATT, since there is no royalty now involved with Apple on per new contract basis. I am gonna buy mine from here and wait for the hack.
I am sorry. I hate to say this but the contract system in North America is the worset thing and the reality is we have very little option with out it. specially in Canada. The cell phone company want you to be stuck with them for a period of time and if you like do not like you are stuck... Cell phone service provide should be just a service privider. They should not be selling devices. The local number portability in here is literally of very little or no use as you cannot move to another carrier anyways...
THANKFULLY, India does not have that. We're free to choose whatever phones we want to buy(at full price) and if we dont like the operator, just get a SIM card from another one and use it.
Doesn't support Stereo sound over Bluetooth.Nor can files be transferred. So much for the 8gb memory .Being a music user (not in any need for a PDA) nm very much happy with my 4gb mem card + 2gb inbuilt Motor rokr E8 :).
How many of us have stereo bluetooth headsets ?
Lets just not start pointing things what the iPhone can't do. The important question is if we would really use those features
As far as transferring files over bluetooth is , there are various fool proof methods available to do that but then you would need to jail break
Wad do u mean files cannot be transferred. iPhone supports Active Synch, wat else can one even ask for. And look out for the new applications coming out thanks to the SDK.
