"There is a general consensus that the root of most of our problems in the social sector have their roots in the lack of education of this underprivileged section of our society," says Air Marshall Keelor (Retd), chairman of Literacy India, an NGO founded to educate underprivileged children and youth of our country.

As a step forward, in order to broaden educational options, Literacy India and the Dell Foundation have teamed up to provide specialized computer education for young people who cannot afford it. For this, Dell has announced opening of the first Dell Multimedia Computer Center in India, for Literacy India, that is located in Bajgera Village in Gurgaon.

The aim of this venture is to offer youngsters -- from the age of 13 years up to 19 years -- an opportunity to move beyond basic computer education and explore the world of advanced software applications.

The Dell Knowledge Center will offer mature and advanced skills like multimedia, 3D imaging, sound and video editing, desktop publishing, etc. The Center is operational with 20 Dell Optiplex 330 desktop computers that will be equipped with pertinent software to teach advanced applications, says Dell. Literacy India has already enrolled over 25 children for this program.

This being a commendable effort, is a miniscule one in a much populated country of ours. It can be hoped that this collaboration would encourage other influential organizations to help the cause of educating the less fortunate masses for a better tomorrow for everyone.
