USB 3.0 promises ten times the speed of USB 2.0 (5 Gigabits per second), and is billed to become the standard for PCs and other devices of the future.
The latest feud to hit the tech world is Nvidia and AMD haggling over the acquisition of the USB 3.0 specification to apply it in their upcoming products.
USB 3.0 promises ten times the speed of USB 2.0 (5 Gigabits per second), and is billed to become the standard for PCs and other devices of the future.
Intel claimed to have formed the USB Implementers Forum in 1995 to support and accelerate adoption of USB-compliant peripherals. It's obvious Intel will not share the specifications with CPU and chip set competitors; the likes of AMD, Nvidia, Via Technologies, etc, are now driven to develop yet another USB 3.0 specification.
If Nvidia and AMD could only come together and develop another "open" host controller specification that would essentially be productized later, it would lead to chaos for vendors and users. However as both continue to fight over the USB 3.0 specification, only time will tell who gets to acquire it.
