CoD4 Sells over 10 Million Copies Worldwide

A first-person shooter, "Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare" boasts a fresh story line revolving around a modern-day infantry soldier who gets into combat mode using modern-day weapons.

"Grand Theft Auto IV" and "Halo 3" may continue to set cash registers jingling but it's the likes of "Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare" (CoD4) that rule the roost. Till date, the game has sold more than 10 million copies world-wide.

A first-person shooter, "Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare" boasts a fresh story line revolving around a modern-day infantry soldier who gets into combat mode using modern-day weapons. By contrast, the game's predecessor had a story line set against the backdrop of World War II.

Vince Zampella, Studio Head of Infinity Ward (producers of CoD4), said the game has been most successful on the Xbox platform though exact sales figures aren't available. The studio expects game sales to cross a couple of millions by end of this year. "Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare" is available for Xbox 360, PS3, Nintendo DS, and Windows PC platforms. According to Zampella, the game would be compromised on the Wii platform, hence the lack of it on the same. The next installment of "Call of Duty" will be produced by Treyarch Corp, makers of parts 2 and 3 of the series.
