Philips has unveiled two new entry level mobile phones -- Philips 198 and 199 -- which are to be rolled out only in Asia and Europe initially. With an affordable price tag, both phones sport the same design and features, while the only difference is the availability of FM radio and headset in the 199 model.

The two candy bar mobile phones come equipped with a 1.5 inch CSTN color display with 128 x 128 pixel resolution and supporting 62K colors, a regular keypad, and a 4-way navigation key.

Weighing about 65 grams and measuring 99 x 42 x 13.5 mm, both phones come loaded with SMS and MMS capability, T9 predictive text messaging facility, polyphonic ringtones, 3 embedded games, miniUSB, and 800 mAh battery capable of providing up to 5 hours of talk-time and up to 20 days of stand-by time, claims the company. They support dual-band GSM 900/1800 with GPRS as well.

Philips 198 and 199 mobile phones will first retail in Asia and Europe with a price tag of 40 Euros ($62) and 45 Euros ($70), respectively.

Who is going to pay $70 (i.e. Rs.2940.00) to Philips, when you are getting similar model Nokia 1650 for Rs.1950.00 that too from established firm like Nokia.
