These patents show some great thinking from the guys at the Nokia R&D Labs
Unwiredview.com has managed to get its hands on a few leaks from the FCC, particularly a few leaks about the new patent filings by Nokia for some interesting handset interface/form factors.
There are basically three patents but they show some great thinking on the part of the boys (and girls) at the Nokia R&D Labs.
Patent 1: Dual swivel phone
Basically, this phone looks like the Nokia 7370 and when you swivel it clockwise, it reveals the the keypad beneath. Not impressed? Well, there was nothing impressive there. What is impressive is that if you swivel the screen counter-clockwise, you don't reveal the keypad underneath but instead you reveal a touchscreen. This is possible due to the help of a clever hinge that reveals different layers depending on how you swivel it.
Patent 2: Touch Interface
In this patent, Nokia does away with the circular touch interface and replaces it with a curved touch sensitive scroll bar.
Patent 3: Kickstand
This is one idea that those who use their phones to watch movies are going to love. Basically this mechanism lets you stand the phone on a table, thereby giving you a great viewing experience.
