    Google Translator supporting Hindi language is the latest in a series of updates focused at multi-lingual users in the country.

The popular Google translation service now offers Hindi translation as well. So users can now get automated translation between Hindi and English.

If you want to translate some text, a Web page, or issue a query in Hindi as well as have results translated from English, you can do it here. Of the total literate Indian population, only about 13 percent are English literate. This launch would ensure that Hindi speaking users can also enjoy the benefits of the Internet, regardless of their familiarity with the English language.

Google Translator supporting Hindi language is the latest in a series of updates focused at multi-lingual users in the country. Some of the multilingual features offered by Google include Data entry, blogs, and search.

Users can type in Hindi using a regular keyboard -- type the word as it sounds. For example, type "mera" using regular English characters, hit the space bar, and Google converts it to the corresponding Hindi word. This feature is also available to Orkut users for sending scraps not just in Hindi but also in other Indian languages including Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, and Malayalam.

The fact that the google is making an effort in this direction is praiseworthy. Presently the quality of translation is below standard. I think AnglaBharti English-Hindi MT or MT systems developed at IIITH and CDAC Pune are better. I am curious to know the what kind of MT system has been used here. Have you developed (are you developing) your own MT system or using some existing one? Improvement is needed. Thanks

nice to see google translator.. but it aint that good.. it mixes up the meaning and the tenses... try translating two or three words that make sense.. it comes out with something with a totally different meaning

Google approach to translation is not "linguistic" i.e. noun-verb etc, but brute force. It scans the web for a similar set of words occurring together in the two languages and matches them. Is it Google's fault that very less Hindi content is available to compare ?

its a good technique. but not a good tranlater because it makes wrong means of sentances. so plz refined it. hidi to english and english to hindi translate is having some sence related problem.
