Not all annoucements were part of the April 1st tom foolery!
A prank happy week (naturally), Ubisoft and Konami too pulled a trick or two out of their sleeves -- with gamers only too pleased to call their bluff. Came April 1st and -- a video that featured Solid Snake dressed as Altair from Assassin's Creed and roaming around in the MGS battlefield -- started doing the rounds of the whole wide Web. Clearly the makings of a joke but just a few hours down the line and the video had become a huge hit -- with gamers starting to draw some pretty wild conclusions.... On a more serious note, Ubisoft and Tom Clancy announced their new game "H.A.W.X" featuring more than 50 airplanes and set very futuristically in 2012. "H.A.W.X" sees PMCs fighting amongst themselves for supremacy, placing players squarely in the fighter pilot's seat. Among the highlights of the game are co-op play, a Vs mode for up to 16 players, an ERS or enhanced reality system, an anti-crash system, and a radar and incoming missile system for that out-of-the-box fighter plane experience. The game is expected to ship later this year for the PC, PS3, and the Xbox 360.
Lastly, this one sure makes sweet music to the ears: legendary rock band Def Leppard is to be part of "Guitar Hero 4", as confirmed by guitarist Phil Collen. Big news -- this -- as more and more popular artists jump onto the 'Guitar Hero' bandwagon. Three famous tracks: Animal, Rock of Ages, and Photograph will be part of the deal, Collen said. And whether Red Octane's strategy to attract an older audience or whatever, the game will sell a gazillion copies -- we think!
