Given Digitimes' track record which is far from flawless, coupled with the fact that yesterday was April Fools' Day, do we believe the report or not?
Yesterday, Taiwanese publication Digitimes reported about Microsoft's having found a partner in Lite-On for the purpose of manufacturing Blu-ray Disc drives for its Xbox 360 gaming console. The report said Microsoft has found a partner in Lite-On, and that the latter has begun manufacturing Blu-ray Disc drives for Xbox 360 consoles. The report added that this may be part of a larger redesign slated for roll-out later this year.

Well in the beginning, Microsoft was a staunch supporter of the HD DVD format; that was until Toshiba publicly withdrew the format. After which, the software major, intentionally or unintentionally, has kept people guessing as to whether it will eventually adopt the Blu-ray format for its Xbox 360 console or not. Several conflicting reports, one even claiming that Sony was trying to woo Microsoft to adopt Blu-ray for Xbox 360 -- added to the general confusion.
Coming back to the Digitimes report, there's already now a counter report on GameSpot which claims that Lite-On is not manufacturing Blu-ray Disc drives for the Xbox 360 after all. GameSpot has reported Microsoft as resorting to its old stance that it is games that drive consumers to purchase game consoles, and that the company will remain focused on providing the largest library of blockbuster games available. That brings us back to the same question: "Is Microsoft going with Blu-ray for the Xbox 360 or not?"
