With 'Guitar Hero' headed to the Nintendo DS, can rival "Rock Band" be far behind? The game is coming to the Nintendo Wii on June 22, its developers, Harmonix, have newly announced.

Among other features, the Wii edition will include drums, microphone, and wireless guitar, and will see release in the US and Canada on the 22nd of June this year. "Rock Band" for the Wii will sport a price tag of $170.

Some more pluses: the game will feature 63 songs including 5 that are unique to the Wii; extra instruments will be available from day one; components of the drums, microphone, and wireless guitar will be available stand-alone; the feature-set is close to the PS2 version of the game; and game instruments won't need the hazardous Wiimote.

Bob Picunko, vice president (Electronic Games and Interactive Products) of MTV Games, said the Wii's success among casual and core gamers of all ages makes it an ideal match for the cross-generational appeal of the music featured in 'Rock Band'.

Meanwhile, Steve Singer, vice president (Licensing) of Nintendo is known to have said that the social interaction and addictive nature of the 'Rock Band' experience is a perfect fit for the Wii, and will undoubtedly be fun for the entire family.

"Rock Band" is already available on the Xbox 360 and the PlayStation 2 and PlayStation 3. A strong challenger to 'Guitar Hero', the game dares players to form a band and tour for fame and fortune while learning to be a master at the guitar, drums, and vocals.
