For those lamenting the lack of privacy on Facebook, the networking Web site has introduced new privacy features.
Facebook keeps coloring itself with new features, and we sure love keeping you updated about them. In case you're wondering, they haven't changed the classic blue theme of the Web site to burgundy, neither have they shifted headquarters from Palo Alto to Bengaluru. What they've done is introduced new privacy features, along with the option to let users chat amongst themselves through Interactive Messaging (IM).
All the better for those of us who were lamenting the lack of privacy on Facebook; our prayers have been answered it seems! Starting today, Facebook users will have the option to set specific privacy controls for specific groups of people on their list. This means: firstly, users will be able to create friend groups; and secondly, they'll be able to share profile information, updates, photo albums, etc, with these groups. Incidentally, the "groups" feature had been introduced by Facebook last year, but the extent to which privacy levels could be customized was limited.
What also now changes is that when a user adds new information to his/her profile, he/she can choose whether the same is to be accessible by everyone on Facebook, friends of friends, all friends, some friends, only them, or certain networks. And, users can choose to blacklist some people so they cannot view particular information.
Meanwhile, what was also doing rounds of the Web was news about Facebook adopting a chat feature. It's been now confirmed that this feature will definitely see the light of day; though when exactly is not known. No worries, we'll keep you posted about details.
All said, Facebook might be on a shrinking user-base trail (as they say) but is still liked by countless fans who'll definitely give a thumbs-up to these new additions we feel.
