To say that Counter-Strike is a big franchise is an understatement: this is the biggest multiplayer game in the world. There is an urban legend about CS that at any given time, the number of gamers playing Counter-Strike is more than double the number of players of all other games put together, but I'm assuming that after World of Warcraft, this is no longer valid.

Number-crunching apart, Counter-Strike has been the most-played FPS multiplayer game in the past eight years, and continues to be so. The game was introduced in 1999 as a Half-Life mod and soon became a rage, and is today responsible for the condition of millions of obese+single+bankrupt gamers worldwide Still, I enjoy CS as much as anybody else: nothing can beat stress like plugging a hole in a terrorist's head with an sniper!
Here, I'll be listing a few Counter-Strike maps that you can download for fun and for improving your aim -- maps that CS players from around the world have designed and posted online. I tried some, and I'm listing my favorites.
There are different kinds of maps in CS, categorized thus:
DE_map: Maps that are used in all the major tournaments, revolving around the concept of the terrorist wanting to bomb one of two available sites called A and B. The counter-terrorists have to defend the bomb sites.
CS_map: Very popular in gaming cafes, these maps revolve around rescuing hostages from the terrorist. There are various small versions of these maps that are used to play small 3v3 games.
Aim_map: These are mostly user-generated maps that don't have a fixed objective. You don't need money to buy weapons, as they are available on the ground -- or you start with weapons.
Fy_map: Fight Yard maps; again, mostly user-generated. The maps are made for fun, with trap-doors and shotguns to play with.
So here go eight of my favorites. Download the ones that best suit your sadistic needs!
