Acer has launched two series of notebooks under its 'Gemstone Blue' brand: the 18.4-inches Aspire 8920 and the 16-inches Aspire 6920 series. Both series are characterized by a dominant feature -- the color Blue; hence the brand name "Aspire Gemstone Blue".

Notebooks under both series are powered by Intel Centrino Processor technology, featuring the latest Intel Core 2 Duo processors, mobile Intel PM965 Express Chipset, and integrated module for wireless connection.

Aspire 8920 notebooks can be equipped with either Nvidia's GeForce 9650M GS graphics engine with up to 1280 MB of TurboCache (512 MB of dedicated GDDR3 VRAM, up to 768 MB of shared system memory) or GeForce 9500M GS with up to 1280 MB of TurboCache (512 MB of dedicated GDDR2 VRAM, up to 768 MB of shared system memory). In either case, these notebooks support Nvidia PureVideo HD technology, Shader Model 4.0, and Microsoft DirectX 10.

Meanwhile Aspire 6920 notebooks come equipped with Nvidia's GeForce 9500M GS graphics engine with up to 1280 MB of TurboCache, and support Nvidia PureVideo HD technology, Shader Model 4.0, and Microsoft DirectX 10. They also feature an HDMI port with HDCP support.

Both the 8920 and the 6920 series of notebooks are equipped with Blu-Ray disc drives, full HD LCD screens, touch-screen interface, and native 16:9 resolution. They integrate second-generation Dolby Home Theater technology with audio technologies including CineSurround, Tuba CineBass booster, and True5.1 output.

The 8920 series of Aspire notebooks comes with HDD space of up to 640GB (2x320GB), while the 6920 series notebooks have a storage capacity of up to 320GB. Consumers also have an option to choose between a Blu-ray Disc and a DVD-Super Multi double-layer drive. Additionally, these NBs include a 6-in-1 card reader, supporting most common card formats.

Acer said select models will come bundled with a VoIP Bluetooth phone that can also be used as a normal cell phone connected to the notebook through Bluetooth connections, or can be placed on any desk or surface and used as a speaker phone.

The two series are expected to arrive in stores in the US some time next month, and will be priced starting at $900 and going up to $1,700.

why not get a fat desktop with a quadcore processor with a few gigs ram and a terrabyte harddisk instead..? This is so huge and bulky, its like carrying a atm machine with you when all you need is a credit card.. A total pointless buy..

Hey look at the pricing... $900 to $1700 means in India itself the pricing shouldnt be more than (approx) 75,000/- right?? That would be a GREAT buy!
