Street Fighter II had many more characters from all over the world like Vega, M.bison, Balrog, and Sagat (the most balanced fighter); the game can still be seen at various local arcades. There were many spin-offs from SF II; many were ported to home consoles -- officially as well as via piracy. There was a PC version as well, and a really bad 8-bit version that was actually developed by pirates to meet the demands of the game.
The next SF I remember playing was Street Fighter Alpha/Zero. These games brought more speed to SF, and many more characters. SF Alpha introduced new concepts: the character design was changed, they looked more like Japanese anime characters; there was a three-level power gauge that could be used all at once to unleash a super 8-10 hit combo to do massive damage. I remember fearing Akuma -- his super combo would mean certain death. There was a unique block system in place as well as new moves.

Characters like Guy from the Final Fight series were introduced, an English punk called Birdie, as well as a odd-looking female called Rose. These new characters, plus the new gauge system, was a huge hit -- this version was available to many consoles as well as PC. The look of many characters was changed; Ken now sported a ponytail, and as for Ryu, he looked more intense. The gauge system added plenty of depth to the combat and led to some really interesting battles.
