You've been waiting for it, and it looks spectacular. But what's new?

Great Visuals and CG videos, Mesmerizing background score, Ring building systems is a great addition, Good old-school turn based action with a few modern twist.

Frame rate issues, Really long load times, Bland plot.

1000 Years of Dreams

The game starts off with two vivid and weird-looking armies battling it out on a large battlefield. Our hero enters in style slicing off half the army in pure CG glory, when all of a sudden you are put into a battle. The transition from CG to in-game can take you by surprise because you don't realize that the game has started. The first battle sequence looks amazing, so does the rest of the game -- but let's talk about that later.

This first battle will help you get used to the controls and fighting mechanism; there is no tutorial, hence you are your own master. This first battle is over quickly and you encounter another long CG video; this time a meteor drops down on the battlefield and kills everyone expect you, because you're immortal (second note: cast immortals in Armageddon 2). You roam around the deserted battlefield, scavenge a few items, and also learn to use the combat ring (more about that later). A few soldiers find you and take you to the main council; they want to know how you escaped the meteor crash unharmed. You speak some bad-English voice-overs, they speak some bad-English voice-overs, and the end result is that you're sent to investigate the "Great Staff" -- and I ain't talking about cleaner-washer-gardener kind of staff, I mean holy-magical-large-gigantic-stick.

The man responsible for the construction of the staff is called Gongora, who looks like an evolved version of Mr Potato-head. He isn't happy about the council's decision and blah blah... you know how the story goes after that.

A couple of hours later, you will realize that if Kaim doesn't recollect all his lost memories the world will be destroyed -- pretty weird but that's the plot. The really interesting aspect of the plot is the emotions that each character shares with the player and other game characters. The story isn't anything special, but its passable; at least the presentation is fantastic.

The review seems cheap, lacking... somehow and most "details" the reviewer seems to have mentioned can be easily misconstrued. If the reviewer actually played a shipping [retail] copy the load times would have been in the vicinity of 12-18 seconds. NOT the JAP import. The setting is a steampunk/fantasy world , so sorry no animated pubescent Jap Schoolgirls in pleated skirts jumping and screaming "coo". For someone who thoroughly enjoyed blue dragon on the 360 and FF games on the PS, finding a distinct lack of JRPGs in your 360's collection this is a Godsend.

You need to go get a "retail" copy of the game and try yourself. The loadtimes are NOT that long...cut each number you gave in half and you might be closer to the truth of it. Outside of that I agree with the rest of the preview.

Do japanese RPGs have little school girls with pleated skirts and sultry eyes ?
