Facebook Says 'Hola' to Spanish

Facebook users in Spain and Latin America have reason to cheer. The Web site now allows translation into Spanish.
The popular social networking Web site has announced translation into Spanish, with German and French versions in tow in the coming few weeks.
A large section of Facebook users stay in countries where the primary spoken language is not English. Therefore those Spanish users of Facebook decided on translating the entire site into the Spanish language.
This effort was undertaken by 1,500 users, who used the translation mechanisms offered by Facebook, and completed the task within four weeks.
Users who added the Facebook translation application were allowed to submit translations online while browsing the site, which were then approved by the community through a voting system.
Starting February 11th, users can choose to view Facebook in Spanish language preferences by changing the language preferences. Users can choose for Spanish instructions, alerts, news feeds, and more. Meanwhile, for those staying in Spanish-speaking countries, the site can be viewed in Spanish.
Until now, Facebook users were allowed to post profiles, messages, or other content in their native languages, but the framework was only in English.
Additionally, Facebook users can now also access the mobile version of the Web site in their supported language at m.facebook.com from any mobile device with Internet access.
All said, Facebook seems to be lagging behind its competitor MySpace that had launched its Spanish version almost a year back, with the site localized for nearly 25 territories. Incidentally, an Indian version of MySpace is also under public beta testing currently.
