Netgear has launched its Digital Entertainer HD EVA 8000 in India, available through Rashi Peripherals.

The Digital Entertainer HD EVA 8000 helps users play digital content wirelessly over the network. The device can wirelessly stream HD movies, videos, music, Internet radio, and photos from PCs, laptops, and storage devices directly onto the HDTV. It can automatically find digital media files on a LAN or Wi-Fi network, and organize them into an easily accessible library.

First time users can set up the device using an on-screen TV wizard. It supports high definition multimedia interface (HDMI) for high definition video resolution up to 1080p.

The HD EVA 8000 also supports Windows Media DRM (WMDRM10) to playback protected downloaded content from major online services. However, this would require Windows Media Connect (WMC) server software, or Windows Media Player 11.

For multi-room playback, two or more Digital Entertainer HDs can be used in different rooms, sychronizing music throughout the house in 'party mode' or pausing a video in the living room and resuming it in another room using 'follow me' mode.

The Digital Entertainer HD can schedule recordings, and pause and rewind live TV from a room using TV tuner cards installed within a PC. Any USB flash drive, digital camera, iPod, or any other USB storage device can be directly plugged into the device.

Users can also have a PC desktop on TV with this device. The TV and the remote control can be used to view and access a PC desktop and its applications.

Netgear's EVA 8000 Digital Entertainer HD is available through Rashi Peripherals for a MRP of Rs 29,070.

Folks, granted you need to pay duty on this and make your margins as well, but 30K? Come on. For that kind of money, I would rather watch my movies on the PC, thank you. And BTW, the XBOX 360 now plays xvid/divx, is available for much lesser and makes a grea t gaming platform as well
