Sony Ericsson yesterday made a global announcement about its first handsets made for India, in India.

The 2 new phones, Sony Ericsson R300i Radio and R306i Radio, are targeted at the rapidly growing entry-level mobile phone radio users to provide them with an improved radio experience.

The new phones will provide features like radio recording, VGA / 1.3 megapixel camera, Bluetooth, and GPRS.

The R300i and R306i phone users will be able choose and to listen to either FM or AM stations for a true mobile-entertainment experience with sports commentary, music, and news content. Users will be able to tune in to their top 3 favorite radio stations with a 1-touch user friendly radio interface.

The R300i comes with an eye-catching speaker while the R306i is a clamshell phone that features a radio front with powerful stereo speakers. The phones feature a dual-front design with the back of the phone looking like a radio, complete with preset radio buttons, volume boost key, and speakers to share the experience.

The Sony Ericsson R300i will be available in Steel Black and Antique Copper, while the Sony Ericsson R306i will be available in Coffee Black or Champagne White.

Sony Ericsson, which currently enjoys a market share of close to 8-percent, is expecting to broaden its consumer base with the radio mobile offering. The company's focus is on providing mobiles loaded with the music feature, as evident from its previous emphasis on the Walkman series.

The company wants to minimize the gap between its market share and that of other players such as Samsung and Motorola, which currently have market shares of 14.5 per cent and 13.1 per cent, respectively.

its good but there's no use of VGA camera as its resolution is very less which is not of much use. Otherwise the other features provided are good.

the only problem with sony erricson phones is the joy stick.. if that can be replaced to something like nokia phones.. sony erricson will really grab hold of the larger market share and large customers too
