Today, 19-inch LCD monitors offer the best value-for-money in terms of the screen size, supported resolution and of course, the price. But, as always, there's room for improvement and that's exactly what Viewsonic claims to have done.

The latest offering from Viewsonic's LCD monitor stable, the VX1940w, promises better graphics, more pixels, and faster response times. Let's see how good it really is.

Bundle

Viewsonic VX1940w LCD Monitor
1 Power Cord
1 DVI-D Cable
1 D-Sub (VGA) Cable
Driver CD
Instructions Manual

How good is it at 1024x768 resolution? Since, I am a webdesigner I have to stick to this resolution and design webpages that are viewed by such audience. I tried the Samsung 740 at this resolution but the text is blurred and not readable. The squares are displayed as vertical rectangles, and circles are elliptical. There is no vsize or hsize controls. Samsung service people say 17inch TFTs are not meant to be used for 1024x768.

All TFT/LCD monitors are designed to support a native resolution. 17 inch TFT's generally have a native resolution of 1280x1024. If you reduce its resolution it scales itself, so obviously the images will appear blurred. For your testing purpose get yourself a 17" CRT which supports a resolution of 1024x768
