    Nokia E65

Frazier Barretto, Dec 10, 2007 1633 hrs IST

Here's another business phone with flaunt value. Here's how it faired in our labs.

Stylish, Sturdy, Lots of applications provided, 2MP Camera, CIF Video recording.

Buggy OS, Cramped keys around D-Pad, Mono Headset, Poor Still image quality, Poor speaker on incoming calls.

The left side of the phone is clean with no controls, while the right side of the phone is fully loaded. The speaker of the phone is placed a little above a line of buttons. There's a Voice Recorder/Commands Button, a Text Edit Key, and volume controls which are much easier to access because they're slightly elevated. The first 2 keys, i.e. the Voice key and the Text edit key require special attention; at times I had to hold the phone with such strain to get my thumb to press the keys.

The lower portion of the phone has a pop-port connector and a charging port.

The back of the phone has matt finish, which at a glance reminded me of the leather tone on my wallet. Towards the upper portion of the back is the 2MP camera of the phone, above which there's Nokia branding embedded. The microSD card slot of the phone is placed under the battery cover and is hot-swappable.

The E65, being a slider, has its alphanumeric keypad hidden under the slide. When the keypad is revealed, you'll notice that it's quite narrow to use. Each of the keys have been uplifted in the center to make it more ergonomic to type with.

This didn't help me much as I found that using the alphanumeric keypad put my thumb through strain. The keypad has a very tactical build, but it doesn't work well with people with large fingers.

My E 65 is the one which is coffee brown in colour. I would like to change it to red because it looks quite cute. Someone could you tell me where I can order for a panel and body (red) over the net. Also tell me the cost of the spares.

Hello there, I bought this phone way back in March 07 and love it. I believe major reason all Nokia phones with 3G (UTMS) have low battery life is because by default they are set to GSM/3G mode in network settings. Once you change to GSM only mode, battery life increases almost by 30 to 40%. My phone goes 2 days without charging with moderate calls, music for 30 min a day, mail client checking mails through WLAN/GPRS/EDGE every 2 hours and I browse net while at home on an average for 30 min a day using WLAN. The problems you mentioned about phone not answering calls, reboots etc have more or less gone after the recent firmware update to 2.0633.65.01 One thing I love this phone for is dedicated hardware keys for Conference and Mute functions. It even allows me to store my conf bridge Pin which is quite useful. My only gripe about this phone is that why didn't Nokia put Symbian OS 9 FP1 (just like N95) on this. That would have made this phone quite stable. And yes I agree 100% that a business phone should be either without camera or having one of the best camera. Home this loooong essay helps someone.

I have a sincere suggetion if you are planning to by e serires phone E51 is the best with all latest stuff. Never consider E65 against it. Also price is 12.5k for E51. Go google for the product review.

Nokia phones are nowadays crap. motorola is gaining momentum in india. nokia is concentrating on bringing new models to the market but least bothered about quality

Guys this is a time to review Nokia E51 and not E65. Also FYI Sony Ericsson M600 is no more available and is obloleted by company. Please be careful in writing reviews as people follow you.
