AMD has unveiled its newest platform codenamed "Spider", targeting video- and gaming- enthusiasts, and promising a highly-advanced feature-rich computing experience.

The "Spider" platform will combine AMD Phenom quad-core processors and ATI Radeon HD 3800 Series graphics processors with DirectX 10.1, 7-Series chipsets having CrossFireX and OverDrive software.

AMD claims "Spider" to be the only platform boasting major next-generation, industry-standard technologies to provide unparalleled bandwidth and balance in the delivery of next-generation HD content.

The quad-core Phenom processors provide processing power to the platform, and will be initially available in speeds of 2.2GHz and 2.3GHz. With HyperTransport 3.0 technology, the Phenom processors have more system bandwidth than ever before with up to 14.4 GB/second of high bandwidth I/O.

When combined with the additional bandwidth of AMD PCI Express 2.0 chipsets and graphics processors, "Spider" enjoys maximum bandwidth to support smooth 1080P video playback, enhanced multi-GPU, and high-speed disk and network interfaces, the company said.

Meanwhile, ATI Radeon HD 3800 series renders best-in-class HD entertainment with the addition of powerful visual processing capabilities such as ATI Avivo HD video engine and Unified Video Decoder (UVD).

The AMD 7-Series chipsets are designed using 65nm process technology, and have the latest ATI CrossFire technology offering scalable multi-GPU performance. The chipsets support three or four Radeon HD 3800 series for upgradeability and DirectX 10.1 performance.

The 7-Series chipsets also offer personalized enthusiast platform performance with OverDrive software, which is a Windows-based performance tuning utility.

In addition, the "Spider" platform includes a list of computing technology firsts, and focuses on power consumption, including ATI PowerPlay, Cool'n'Quiet 2.0 technology, Microsoft DirectX 10.1 support, HyperTransport 3.0 technology, and PCI Express 2.0.
