Last week we listed some of the best deals in digicams available in the Indian market for less than 10k. Today, we've got some more cameras for those with a slightly higher budget - of up to 15K. Although there are many options in this category, what we've compiled here are some of the best digital cameras in terms of overall performance, features, user-feedback, and of course, price. So go ahead, take your pick!

Canon PowerShot A570IS: Rs. 13,500

The Canon PowerShot A570IS is a 7.1MP digicam. It has a 4x optical zoom lens with true Image Stabilization (IS) achieved by moving elements in the optical path. It's powered by the latest DIGIC III image processor, which gives enhanced face detection and delivers good low noise pictures even at ISO 1600.

The Canon A570 IS body includes a 2.5 inch LCD display along with a real-image optical zoom viewfinder. Other features include 9-point auto focusing, a maximum ISO sensitivity of 1600, 3 metering modes (evaluative, center-weighted average, and spot), 7 white balance modes, plus custom mode, and 12 scene modes.

The A570 IS offers 30 fps VGA (640x480) video mode with sound in AVI (Motion JPEG) format, and supports SDHC as well as SD/MMC memory cards.

The camera uses twin AA batteries for power. A pair of 1600mAh rechargeable NiMH batteries can give you at least 350 shots - with a fair amount of flash usage.

For the price mentioned above, I'm sure you'd get a 2GB SD card, camera pouch, and rechargeable batteries with a charger thrown in the bundle.

Canon IXUS 70: Rs. 14,500

If style is what you're looking for, Canon IXUS is the way to go. This would definitely make you look good on and off the camera. The slimmest IXUS camera till date, the IXUS 70 measures 85.9x53.5x19.4 mm and has the latest DIGIC III imaging processor, a 7.1 MP CCD, and a 2.5-inch LCD screen at the back.

A convenient touch wheel on this camera puts a variety of operations at your fingertips for easy capturing and viewing of photos. It incorporates Face Detection AF, Face Detection AE, and Face Detection FE, which work hand-in-hand to easily capture high quality photos of subjects' faces with the right exposure and sharpness.

Other features include a 9-point AiAF (auto-focus) or single point AF (fixed to center), 18 shooting modes including 8 special scene modes, vertical/horizontal gridline display for easy photo composition and framing. Also, there's a Time Lapse Movie function that can shorten movie duration by selecting representative frames so that parts of the movie can be viewed, along with a Stitch Assist mode to piece images together seamlessly to create a single panoramic landscape.

The Canon IXUS70 uses a proprietary battery (NB-4L) for power that last for around 200 shots per charge.

Expect at least a 1GB card and a camera pouch with the bundle, from the dealer of course.

I have a Canon A570is and it is good in Auto mode for normal users and also has manual options for those who want to experiment and graduate to serious photography. Where can I buy a circular polarizer lens and its adapter for my Canon A570is in Banglaore? Plz help. (and yes...its categorized as aim-and-shoot but can take a lens with an adapter)

Go for Canon Powershot A720!!! It is a great 8MP camera with 6x optical zoom and takes great looking pictures!! Canon is the BEST in digital cameras. I sincerely suggest to look no further than Canon. Even for professionals, Canon's EOS series is simply great!!!

How are u comparing cameras of 3X 4X and 6X? This is an important differentiator. Better classify the cameras and compare according to MP, (5-8), zoom,3X,6X etc and do not bracket all types together.

I checked out a Canon S3 IS and it was around Rs.13,500. I would definitely say that for this price it is a terrific buy. For those who think more MP the better, check out http://6mpixel.org/en/

Somebody please tell me whether the A-series or the Ixus series is better in Canon....

Ixus series is kinda mobile cameras with small form factor. If you are looking at mobiles u can keep in pockets(not quite) then ixus is better. If u look for quality/performance A-series is better. Go figure.

Also, IXUS models do not have IMAGE STABILISATION which is standard in some "A" series models.

IXUS is Canon's code-name to mean the Image stabilization. IXUS series was brought in, just for this. A few of the top-end A-series (5MP+) share this from their IXUS cousins.
ixus

IXUS definitely does not mean Image Stabilisation. I have an IXUS 75 an' it aint got no IS. Sad but True. But I get some really good Shots. If the A series has an optical view finder with 2.5" LCD(will not drain your battery like a 3" LCD). Image Stab( very Useful), and at least 3+ Optical ZOOM and at least 1 if not 2 GB card you should be okay.

I am sorry, rviewer seems to be less critical, always forget to mention about the focal length of the lenses. If zoom then what to what?

Instead of spending around Rs15000/=to get a Digicam[7MP] ,how about buying Nokia N95[5MP] which takes great looking photos? .....only a suggestion......any comments????

Well the Nokia N95 is a good phone no doubt, but it cant compare to a proper camera. The N95 has a CMOS camera which doesnt work well at night. It doesnt have a proper flash either nor does it offer an optical zoom. Mega pixels don't matter as much as the lens of a camera.

If U R serious about Photography, Get a DSLR and a very capable ZOOM Lens. I suggest go for D40 Nikon and Nikon Zoom Normal-Telephoto 55-200mm f/4-5.6G ED also u will get a kit lens of 18-55, all for Rs.30,000/- (grey Market Prices) whereas u can go for Panasonic Fz18 which has more Zooming capability but its a fixed lens for around Rs.20,000/-Also Fujifilm FinePix S8000fd for 20,000 bucks. Olympus SP-560 UZ is also available for 17000. Check out all the cameras before making a decision.
