I face the same proble & when i checked it i got serious issue with my motherbord south bridge.

Me too experience this same problem. Anyone can help here? What about the South Bridge? Can we repair it our self? Or we have to send this laptop to Service Center?

i have the same problem i did some searching and it seems its the dc power board, its easy to replace its just the price, about 100 bucks and i not 100% sure i did research it and it seems command with this laptop?...crossing my fingers and hoping for the best....ps acer sucks big time. good luck.

Did your motherboard problem got resolved? My acer 4520 is giving same problem. I took it to acer center. They said motherboard has gone bad and it needs to be replaced. Need to spend Rs. 13,000 for it !!

it's a chipset problem... due to sudden increase in temperature.. nVidia chipset fails.. the only work around for this is to do a "reflow"...yeah! you need to have a good reflow ...uhhmmm up to 250ºC.. takenote this is not a fix... eventually it will fail again.. acer overlooked this fuckin problem.. they should have recalled this model in the first place!! millions of problem like this remains unsolved unless they offer to replaced the MP67(nvidia) chipset. for free (BGA replacement is hard and costly).

Guys, this motherboard problem can be resolved just for 2.5k, I got it repaired in a service center in Bengaluru( Not an Acer service center, they dont know other than changing the motherboard). Service center techie told me that its because of the faulty integrator chip the lappy was not turning on. he had it replaced. Folks has anyone got it repaired for less than this, share your experiences.

My Aunt gave me an Acer Aspire 4520, saying it was dead and if i fixed it I could have it. I would press power and the green light as well as 3 other indicator lights would blink as long as I was holding the power button down, but the computer would never start. Didnt even hear any sounds indicating start up. I reasearched for weeks and finally figured out it was either the CPU or GPU...there were lots of tricks to fixing them without replacing...so I started with the most simple (sounds crazy but it worked) follow these steps IF YOU DO NOT ALREADY HAVE A "USER" MANUAL DOWNLOAD ONE ONLINE..JUST GOOGLE IT! FOLLOW THAT GUIDE AND COMPLETELY DISASSEMBLE LAPTOP. BE SURE TO REMOVE ALL 'UNNECESSARY FOR REPAIR' PARTS TO KEEP THEM SAFE AND OUT OF THE WAY (HARD DRIVE, RAM (MEMORY), WLAN, CMOS BATTERY, MODEM, CD/DVD ROM, FAN, ECT) THE ONLY COMPONENTS WE WILL BE WORKING WITH IS THE MOTHER BOARD BASE AND THE 'CPU' (LOCATED UNDER THE COPPER PIECE RUNNING FROM THE FAN), AND THE 'GPU' (LOCATED NEAR CPU , UNDER SILVER PLATE THAT IS PRETTY THICK AND HAS SOME SORT OF SPIKE LIKE THINGS ON IT) ANYTHING ELSE THAT YOU CAN REMOVE...DO SO!! AND TAKE EXTRA CARE WORKING WITH MOTHERBOARD (NO STATIC OR MAGNETIC TOOLS!!) Okay once you have the motherboard base....containing the gpu & cpu, lay it on a flat wood table or some surface that won't conduct much heat. (Make sure both components are visible with no coverings) Take a blow dryer (this works...it fixed mine) and put it on HIGH HEAT...but the LOW SETTING (so the air is hot but blows out slowly) hold the nozzle and 4-8 inches away from GPU (TRY GPU FIRST BC THAT WAS THE ONE THAT WAS DAMAGED ON MINE...AND HOPEFULLY YOURS TOO) In a circular motion, heat up GPU component...do not get to close, keep a good distance between the GPU and blow dryer nozzle. You want it to heat up slowly and evenly BUT want it to get up to a really high temp. (we are trying to heat up the GPU enough to remelt any lose parts on the connected side on the bottom...this is a really common issue in this model and this is a really common fix...just different ways of doing so...this is the simplest and less risky option) Keep heating it for about 15 - 20 min... try to get it as hot as possible but wont burn you if you touch it!! Use your own judgement.... if you think its too much heat...stop and let it cool a few min and do it a little more. I would also quickly pan over the entire motherboard every 5 min or so...this helps any other loose connections...but dont do it too much ...and be EXTRA sure not to hold the blow dryer too close to any other areas!! rotate the dryer to get the sides ...getting all of the GPU evenly (not just top) after the 15 min or so ....press down gently but firmly on top of GPU for about 30 sec to a min. Let the motherboard sit another 5-10 min to cool then reassemble. Be sure to RECONNECT all connectors (but you do not have to reinsert hard drive, memory, keyboard,wlan, or cd/dvd rom....untill you see the laptop is working! If it does NOT come on...retry process but focus on the CPU instead!! this should fix up your problems I hope....and while you have the fan out go ahead and use the blow dryer to clean out any dust build up inside!! and clean it regularly to prevent this problem from getting worse.. *this may be just a temporary fix....you may have to do this every month or so...there are more permanent ways....but im going to see how long this works before putting more work into it!!* HOPE IT WORKS FOR YOU...LET ME KNOW HOW IT GOES...and if you have any questions feel free to ask!!

Hi Amit I am also facing the same problem, if you get it repair also no use it will work hardly for a month or two. Twice i gave it for service in 3 months, but again the same problem. they told me this as a drysolder problem which they cant fix, the alternate solution for this is replace your motherboard, but my advice to you is never go for acer products, there is no warrenty on these products and also bad service

Problem with your board. I just got my laptop fixed, mine not actually had problem with dvd player only but fatal damage on board..after they changed to a new motherboard the problem solved

Have you checked for earthibg problems at your home or wherver you have charged the notebook? I have a state of the art IBM desktop that kept failing due to un-regulated current. My home had poor earthing. As a result, my computer was subjected to spikes of power that rendered the LCD, RAM and eventually the IC on the motherboards useless. Cost me a bomb to rectify each.

come on dude,i just bought Acer aspire aspire 4520 with amd Turion X2 TL-60 2.0 GHz,it working just fine,which i hope so after lookin at your words?!What i hate about notebook is the battery.does any manufacturer design a notebook with alternative power supply such as solar or lunar?or mayb some nuke?if theres one,i would like to know how..:)

It doesnt mean u fell in ditch , that every one must man. I have been using this lap top ( acer 4520) since 8 months and i run vista ultimate.It rocks.

Finally someone who found out the 'technical' details of this review. I found it very funny to compare a budget processor to a high performance processor. We need proper comparisons. The best to compare this processor would be the Dual core. The core 2 duo is out of this league and priced at at least 10k more.

There are 2 different processors used in the same model, ie the TK53 and the TL58. The TL58 is better ofcourse but come bundled with Vista and is priced higher. TK 53 is the Atlon while TL 58 is the Turion. Turion is better in terms of battery performance and heats lesser. Performance wise both are similar

you bet acer-aspire 4520. I am using a compaq also, but I am more comfortable on the acer-4520.........

I went to get this laptop with 2gb ram few days back..Instead i settled for compaq v3611Au with 2gb..its priced at 29k..and acer with 2gb around 29.5k.. Acer++ = Bluetooth+160gbhdd+webam+default 1gb ram Compaq ++ = Nforce 630m+7150m supporting purevideo hd VS acer 610m+7000m.. amd x2 1.8ghz vs 1.7 opf acer better build quality Overall without the extra kinks compaq is a better performer while acer has some extra stuffs..So do give it a look before jumping on the 4520 bandwagon
