Kodak EasyShare C653: Rs. 6,995

Known for making simple and good quality cameras, Kodak has many sub-10K models in its arsenal. The EasyShare C653 is among the better and most popular of them all.

Also known as the C623, the EasyShare C653 features a 6MP CCD for prints of up to 20x30" (50 76 cm) and a 3x optical zoom lens. It sports a 2.4" LCD and offers Digital Image Stabilization (DIS) using anti-blur mode, and 20 programmed scene and 3 color modes. Its Panorama stitch mode allows you to combine 3 shots into 1 big picture. It's ISO range is 80-1,250, and it lets you capture VGA clips at 10 fps, or QVGA clips at 20 fps in QuickTime MOV format -- both with audio. It's easy to use and quite portable.

The camera has 32MB of internal memory and uses twin AA batteries. You can use rechargeable NiMH batteries as well. Mind you, Kodak cameras are power guzzlers -- so make sure keep an extra set charged and ready to use.

Overall, the C653 promises decent quality indoor and outdoor shots that you can use for those 4x6s.

For the price mentioned aboveI'm sure you'll also find a 512MB SD card, 2 NiMH batteries, NiMH charger, and camera pouch added to the bundle.

Kodak EasyShare M753: Rs. 9,999

Launched in June 2007, the M753 is a stylish model from the Kodak stables -- though not as cool looking as the V8xx series.

Available in 6 colors, the Kodak EasyShare M753 has a 7MP CCD imager and a Kodak-branded 3x optical zoom lens. It also has a 5x digital zoom and a 2.5" LCD display. But like many current models, the M753 has no optical viewfinder.

The Kodak M753 has 17 scene modes to help beginners achieve the results they're looking for without the need to understand subtleties like shutter speeds, apertures, and the like. Additional shooting modes include auto, video, favorites, digital IS, high ISO, and close-up.

Five white balance settings are available, including an auto mode. ISO sensitivity is controlled automatically from 80 to 800, or manually up to 1,250. The M753 also offers a movie mode, capturing VGA (640x480) clips at 15 fps, or QVGA (320x240) at 30 fps -- both with audio. Movies get encoded in Motion-JPEG format. You can store your images or movies on SD/MMC card or in the 16MB internal memory that the camera offers.

Powered by a proprietary KLIC-7001 lithium-ion rechargeable battery, it lasts for about 150 shots (with generous flash usage). Even so, I d suggest you get a spare battery.

Never Buy Canon Point and Shoot cameras without IS ( image stabilizer) marked on this. There are special IS released cams of Canon that have excellent and sharp details...

just buy a DSC W5 and work on your pics with adobe photoshop :) works wonders. Would be half the price mentioned and this is a 5MP camera. Have been using it for 2 years and have found that it beat the A550 from Canon. Mega Pixel count is not an assurance of the camera performance and clarity.

sugunan, i have been using w5 for about 2 yrs and i am extremly happy with the image quality in normal lighting, but in low light the image quality is not great may be coz of low iso. also, no image stabilisation is a major let down.

Photography in good light: Panasonic is the best. Photography in low light where you need to use higher ISO such as social situations, parties, get togethers, indoors, etc: Fuji especially F30 and F31fd or S6000 would be the best. Avoid cameras with higher megapixel count for more cleaner images. More megapixel does not mean a better camera. Nikon D40 DSLR with 6 MP and Fuji F31fd and S6000 with 6MP Super CCD sensor is a good example and proof of that.

Well... Handy cam is the best for rec. video. not stills.... I've a Sony handycam DCR-DVD-608E super video quality even at standard settings... For still pics digicams r the best... 6mp shld be max lim for ppl like us with only casual pics.

I don't have any argument 'bout the the best camera, to tell you the truth, all are Japanese !!! Some are coastly because of the Slimness, some are because of picture quality and facility and some are for Fit & Finish. We have to compromise somewhere that's all.

CANON would be the right choice. The A530 is more than enough because the A550 isn't highly different for the extra cost...

Always Canon is best. But check whether this is made in China or Made in Japan. Purchase cams that are made in Japan only.

Canon service is great. They replaced the defective CCD of my A85 free of cost, 2 and half years after the purchase. Did not even ask for purchase bill.
