Singapore-based telecommunications service, Starhub, already utilizes the VSNL Wi-Fi network across India for its customers.
Videsh Sanchar Nigam Limited (VSNL) has added one more partner, Japan-based NTT, to its international in-roaming service on Wi-Fi.
Singapore-based telecommunications service, Starhub, already utilizes the VSNL Wi-Fi network across India for its customers.
Prateek Pashine, vice president (Planning - Retail Broadband Business) of VSNL, said, "Over the next six months, VSNL intends to open-up its extensive Wi-Fi network to millions of customers of international telecom operators, thereby offering travelers to India access to high speed wireless Broadband zones in key locations in top 10 cities in the country."
VSNL claims to have the largest Wi-Fi deployment among domestic ISPs with over 350 hotspots. The company further plans to enhance the footprint to over 1,000 hotspots this year.
These hotspots include major domestic and international airports, leading premium Star hotels, educational institutions, sports stadia, hospitals, and chains of restaurants and coffee shops.
In addition, the company is creating hotspots at non-traditional locations like mobile stores, IT stores, and railway stations.
The company believes that this will bring high-speed Broadband Internet closer to the large traveling population.
Some of VSNL's partner companies include: Taj Group of Hotels, Le Meridian, Cafe Coffee Day, Barista, Manipal University, and Wockhardt.
BSNL's broadband service is like a vegetarian cafe menu: small idlis, little vadas, little bondas, with puli chutni, thenga chatni, kadalai chatni and so on and different mixes like the mini meal, full meal etc. It is just a platter for display, a vexacious variety, offering broadband speed and charging meanly for downloads, and allowing free downloads only when the night is dying down. It is not a sincerely service minded organization. The genuine users who want to view streaming videos, news clippings etc, and want to spend a while on the web get nothing but a hefty bill for the small megabytes they browse about.
While I agree with you with regard to BSNL. This article is about VSNL which is now a part of the TATA TeleServices group which is equally bad I was unable to migrate my VSNL subscription which was from the Govt. of India (those days we had no choice - even for choosing our user ids) to TATA Indicom - AMAZING ! ! !
I use MTNL in Delhi & Mumbai and they are great.
I use BSNL / Calcutta Telephones in Kolkata and they need - DIVINE Intervention to help them.
