Performance

Single File 700 MB

Read: 37 seconds (18.9 MB/s)

Write: 138 seconds (5.07 MB/s)

Multiple Files (588 MB/766 Files/11 Folders)

Read: 48 seconds (12.25 MB/s)

Write: 392 seconds (1.5 MB/s)

As you can see from the scores above, the card + reader performance is good. The standard read/write speeds exceed what the package specifies.

Benchmarks

I put the card-reader through the hardware benchmarking software SiSoftware Sandra 2007. When I ran the File System and Removable Storage Benchmarks, the card obtained a Drive Index of 17 MBps and Removable Storage Combined Index of 4557 operations per minute.

Conclusion

The Kingston USB microSD Reader is available in 2 options: a 1GB and a 2GB option. While the 1GB option is priced at Rs.850, the 2GB is priced at Rs.1,500. Warranty on the card-reader is 2 years, while the warranty on the memory is lifetime. The prices of the packages are decent, considering that you can get just the memory for about Rs.150 less in both cases. So you just end up paying Rs.150 for the reader, which isn't bad. But given a choice I'd opt for a reader that can read more than just 1 format.

With microSD becoming so popular in Nokia Phones this device will come very handy for read and write at good speeds, though the design should be more robust

Hi, i got ur point. But there is point of simplicity as well. For the products like u said, one is required to carry USB cable separately as well, where as for products listed here, is ready to use pen drive. On top of that u get reliability from reputed company 'Kingston'. I have used 2 memory card readers each of same model, may be manufactured locally. Costed me 100 buck for each of them, but there was warrenty and one of it busted in 2 months. There were issues with speed and reliability as well. MMC and SD cards are most common, so its ok get product with limited compatibily with only these two.
