HP has announced its foray into retail- and online- printing with the launch of its new retail photo solution, and an online photo service called 'Snapfish'.
With increasing demand for mobile phones with built-in cameras, there is an obvious increase in the number of photos clicked, and a corresponding increase in the number of prints as well.
In order to tap the photo printing market, HP has announced its foray into retail- and online- printing with the launch of its new retail photo solution, and an online photo service called 'Snapfish'.
The retail photo solution will offer a range of products and services for consumers. Consumers can get their photos turned into high-quality prints of various sizes, as well as get creative work done on merchandise and other accessories.
HP will set up kiosks at public places such as malls, supermarkets, photo specialty stores, electronic stores, etc, where consumers can take their digital photos in various portable media such as USB drives and memory cards (any format), and get them printed while they shop or get entertained.
According to V Narayanan, director (Retail Photo Solutions, IPG) of HP, "With every cell phone having a camera today there are a number of photos generated everyday. But not more than 15 percent of these photos get printed, primarily for want of convenience. So, with the retail solution, consumers will experience the required ease for getting their photos on print."
The company claims that the solution is capable of printing a 4 x 6 photo in just 5 seconds, which will last for over 200 years in an album, or under glass. However, the charges for these photo prints haven't been decided as yet.
Meanwhile, HP has also launched the much awaited online photo sharing site, 'Snapfish' at http://www.snapfish.co.in. The site, altered for Indian consumers, offers active members free online sharing and unlimited storage of photos, as well as photo editing tools.
Members can get digital photos (4 x 6) printed online for just Rs 2.95 each. In addition, new members are eligible for 20 free prints.
Bala Parthasarthy, vice president (Online Imaging, IPG) of HP, said, "Members of 'Snapfish' will enjoy home delivery of photo prints anywhere across the country within two to five days depending on proximity, though consumers will need to pay courier charges."
Both the retail- and online- photo printing solutions will enable consumers to create and order a wide range of print enlargements and personalized photo merchandise, including greetings, posters, calendars, mugs, coasters, T-shirts, key rings, and porcelain ornaments.
