Lenovo has launched its G Series notebooks, meant to be a budget offering for value-conscious customers looking to make the leap from desktops to notebooks.

The flagship model, the G400, features Intel's Pentium Dual-Core T2080 (1.73GHz, 533MHz FSB, 1MB) processor, and comes with a 14.1-inches WXGA high-definition glossy wide-screen display, in a sleek Silver cover.

The G400 comes with: a 4-in-1 Memory Card reader, high-speed 56K modem, wireless 802.11 bg technology, and integrated Bluetooth v2.0. It weighs about 2.35kg, and has a battery life of up to four hours with pre-loaded Energy Cut 2.1 software for effective power management.

The laptop also features: an integrated microphone, Realtek High Definition Audio with a greater than 8cc chamber design for impeccable sound, and limited edition Power2Go 5.5 multimedia software for recording various forms of data.

All G Series notebooks operate on DOS; and are equipped with Lenovo's high touch full-sized keyboard -- inspired by its 'Thinkpad' keyboard design, and the 'One Key Recovery' system that allows users easily recover data in the event of a crash.

The Lenovo G Series notebooks are immediately available at all Lenovo authorized storefronts for prices starting at Rs 31,750.

well well well all comments are indeed given out by wise people.i bet the majority uses laptops for multimedia,gaming.etc.well be clear on this 1. indian brands are here to make money too( i think someone mentioned zenith etc).none of the indian brrands have read your comments and got really pissed off with lenovo for duping indians.remember the pentium dual core which lenovo gives and the pentium dual core of zenith does not come from the same semiconductor wafer.to the wise intel takes care of this. 2. zenith was there even before the branded stuff was here ,then why have big corporates gone for their entire IT infrastructure(indian) gone for foreign IT MNC products.you will be surprised that computers and IT hardware procured for the govt through contracts are international brands. why why why..... 3. a zenith or indian make(the true indians) are not a hallmark for quality or service.since i have been in the govt sector and seen all these from close quarters ,the day an indian brand gives the same quality foreign MNC's will get a run for their money. 4. i'll clarify whis some wise ass made about centrino.remember centrino is a standard which intel has set for OEM's to display using the inte logo. pentium dual core is part of it. 5. the laptop is an entry level thus you cant expect princess diana smooching you in your bajaj chetak. 6. a bajaj chetak is good in its own place and so is a high end honda bike all these points to the wise will seem reasonable and to the unwise........ regards

Lenovo has also joined the band wagon of other laptop manufacturers & marketeers to DUMP OLD PENTIUM DUAL CORE LAPTOPS- which they can not give away in the west even for( $ 400 with windows-Rs. 17k) )- into Indian market for double the price - without windows. Great are ways of global marketing- Every body is into "Lets fxxk these Indians game!!!

Well said....so is the case with the Luxury and super luxury cars to...The auto wesites here are no less in worshipping those brands that offer vehicles with 'unwanted gadgets at sky-hi prices'....Only some ignorant pampered people should go for these laptops, I have got a PC with TFT monitor, Intel Dualcore Pro, 2 GB RAM and 220 GB memory for 27 K..The screen is 14 inch.

It is amazing that Indians can be just as ignorant as the rest of the world actually believes you are!!! I am sure most even don't know the fact that a Centrino is a nothing but an Intel CPU, Wi-FI, and integrated graphics. A Centrino can be Single Core, or Dual Core, or Core 2 Duo. There are different chip sets that reflect this. Check out wikipedia!! Instead of posting information on specs, TechTree should start classes for the ignorant masses. And also, the companies aren't charging high. It's the politicians you don't vote for. Importing these is not 'TAX FREE' for the companies. They have to pay on each laptop. Let them trade freely, and they will sell for 1/3rd the US cost. After all, all of them are made in Asia...

,Jumhri Taliya, on Oct 08, 2007 12:29 PM
This is a countercomment to the reply from Anon from DEF bringing the business of politics into technological innovations...Its time you put on a fresh thinking cap...Mixing politicians with technological innovations is a bad habit....None of the laptop companies in India, including Lenovo sell laptops for altruistic reasons....so you can forget about trying to project Lenovo or any other transnational being in India for purely altruistic reasons, (unlike some [very rare] Indian politicians). They are here for one very simple reason:To rake in BILLION of Dollars of Profit. Now, if we as Indian consumers see them as selling outdated stuff, which they are....we have every right to criticize them....And stop moaning about taxes....can't avoid them...even if you are a politician!

Hmmm... I would like to suggest an alternative, from IBM's own stable. The Lenovo Thinkpad R60e, more specifically the A59 - 069. I bought one about 3 months back for about 39,000 with an extra 512MB of official Lenovo DDR2 RAM. It offers much greater value IMHO. Take for instance:- and you may disagree. MUCH more sturdy constuction of the Thinkpads in comparison to other brands (including all other Lenovos) Magnesium Alloy Casing. Dual Rollcage Design. [including the screen]. Accelerometer assisted HDD protection. You *HAVE* to see it in action to believe it. No trackpad, just the fricking awesome NUB. This might seem like a downer... but for perps like me with wide palms this comes as a godsend. No accidental mouse button presses with my palm. I'm a nub purist now... The Free Leather Thinkpad Casewith branding. And finally... The 3 YEAR, that's right THREE YEAR ALL PARTS AND LABOR inclusive warranty. Parts and Accessories. Standard with all thinkpads. Such an extended warranty costs approximately 8000/- extra for your 'value' Lenovo. MUCH MUCH MORE IN TERMS OF VALUER. Oh.. did i mention that these black beauties still come branded with the IBM logo. :) You can still find lots of this model in stock in Nehru Place, here in Delhi. W00t My 2 Centos.

btw, the model i mentioned comes with freeDOS. worked for me, i installed SLED 10 SP1 as my default O.S. For all those marching with pitchforks on the Anti-China tirade the R60e is MADE IN SINGAPORE. And this IS an article about a value laptop, so talk about value. The average Jhalla could care less [much less tap the full potential] if he got a Centrino Duo or Core 2 Duo. Value means cheap now and low maintainence w/ a decent lifespan. All the more reason to have proven, mass market hardware {and i don't mean end-of-lifecycle} with good warranty plans. Do you want a powerhouse? Go get an Alienware for $2500. And btw, don't blame the companies for the high prices. They're bled at our doorstep by high handed protectionist policies like high rates of taxation. Like we have any comparable indigenous industry to nurture or protect _|_. Frankly, If companies were left to their own devices we too would experience 6 month product cycles and penetration pricing the likes of which countries like Japan, South Korea and USA see.

Lenovo is stupid chinese manufacturer i think it will be best to go for japanese manufactureres like toshiba or fujitsu. I think the best choice for now could be atleast dell or hp because they are selling in same price. around 30,000 same configuration...Lenovo is a bad product in china with sub-standard profile. Think twice before you buy it

Dos! so you pay another Rs. 7K for Windows XP and extra for AV and other software. Running pirated XP nowadays is a huge problem with no windows Updates and lot of viruses on the internet. I'd rather buy something that comes pre loaded with XP or run Linux on this one.
