Among other things, Apple's iPhone is nurturing several 'me toos'.
The latest in the series are the three new 'iPhone Killers' announced by USA's Verizon Wireless.
Part of the troika is LG's 'Voyager', which features a design strikingly similar to that of the iPhone, and a network believed to be faster than the one on the iPhone.
Not only does 'Voyager' sport a 2.8-inches external touch-screen similar to the iPhone, but also opens up to reveal a physical QWERTY keypad. Other features of the phone include an HTML browser, full V CAST-capabilities, 2 mega pixels digital camera, support for .mp3, .wma, and unprotected .aac files, and V CAST video.
In addition, it has a removable microSD memory slot, with up to 8GB of memory. 'Voyager' will probably be priced at around $500.
The other phone playing catch-up with the iPhone is LG's 'Venus'.
To be priced above $130, the 'Venus' sports dual front screens; with the lower screen having a touch input with vibration feedback for running applications, and the upper screen meant more for media playing. Other features of 'Venus' are similar to those of the 'Voyager', including a 2 mega pixels camera. The difference is the phone has a standard keypad instead of a QWERTY.
Completing the formidable triplet is Samsung's 'Juke', which is really thin -- less than one-inch wide.
The candy-bar, entry-level music phone features 2GB of onboard storage memory, A2DP Bluetooth, and a 1.3 mega pixels camera. To reveal the keypad, users need to flick or swivel a part of the phone to the side to punch-in numbers. The 'Juke' will likely come for less than $100.
For all three phones, Verizon has not yet announced launch dates.
