Halo 3 is a potent intoxicant that's lured thousands of gamers. Even I got my copy, and I've been hooked ever since!

The single player is great, the game looks good, but the star of the show is Halo 3 online. Read on for more.
The Solo Campaign
The single player is awesome, like I said earlier. However, I didn't very much like the visuals in the first frame. But as I progressed, the game just kept looking better. But I'd better come to the visuals later. For now, let's talk about the lengthy but brilliantly crafted single player campaign.
Halo 2 was an exciting game, and the climax was intriguing. Halo 3 starts exactly after Halo 2 ended: you see Master Chief stranded in a forest. His suit locks up to protect him - and you find him in a very amusing position. The game starts off soon after, and you've to reach a rendezvous point. But let me tell you that reaching the place isn't that easy. You've to battle many Covenant units - and this experience teaches you all the basics of the game. The gameplay is very similar to Halo 2, which is not a bad thing at all.
Sergeant Major Johnson and the Arbiter (the second playable character) find Master Chief in the forest whom they help throughout the campaign. Those who've played Halo 2 would know the story behind Cortana and her absence. But for the newcomers: Cortana was Master Chief's advisor and guardian throughout the first 2 games; she's actually an AI program with female programming. Master Chief loses Cortana in Halo 2. But he can see images of Cortana, trying to reach him throughout the campaign in Halo 3.
The game begins, and there's no peace: earth has been ravaged by the Covenant. And as Master Chief, you'll go through various well designed levels and missions, which include destroying antiaircraft vehicles, facing the Flood, and many more. There are many twists and turns, which will make sense to you only if you've played both the prequels.
Multiplayer Mayhem
The real forte of Halo 3 is the multiplayer. The interface works like a charm when it helps you filter matches.

Campaign
You can go online and create or join a campaign game. It's basically the same single player campaign, with the exception that you can play it with up to 4 players. And it's fun!
Match Making
No! Match Making isn't an online dating software or web portal that fixes you a date; it's in fact the most comprehensive and detailed search engine that you might ever get to see. There are many game modes in Halo 3: classics like deathmatch (called Slayer), King of the Hill, and the new Odd Ball. You can play any of these in matchmaking mode. The matchmaker finds you a perfect match. There are various options - and once you filter out what you don't want to play, the match maker will find you games and quickly connect you. This will save you a lot of time and match you up against competent players. While you're playing, the game progressive your rank. You start off as apprentice - and as you play better, you the game upgrades you. The matchmaker will make sure that you play against players that are as good as you. This is a great system; it makes playing Halo online all the more pleasurable.
