Fox Interactive Media (FIM) has launched a free, advertising supported, 'mobile' version of its popular social networking Web site, MySpace.
With this move, mobile users will now be able to access MySpace simply by keying in the url: mobile.myspace.com from their mobile devices.
The mobile MySpace version will allow users do practically everything they're able to do with the regular online version, except uploading of pictures. Typically, users will be able to send and receive messages and requests; comment on pictures and profiles; post bulletins; update blogs; find friends; and view and update their mood status.
And this isn't the first time that MySpace has come to the mobile platform: AT&T, T-Mobile, and Helio users have all had access to MySpace before -- albeit as a paid service. This time though, the launch is in the form of an ad-supported model, and hence free.
Meanwhile, FIM's mobile MySpace launch is the latest instance of adapting original Web browser-based versions of Internet applications to the mobile platform. This is part of a growing trend that will eventually see people accessing Internet more on mobile devices, than from the comfort of their homes or offices.
