The world knows that the Xbox Live is the best online gaming service on the planet, and it is so for good reasons. It has an easy interface, and you just have to plug n play. It has great themes, awesome collection of music, movies and trailers; but even if you put all that together in one bundle, it is nothing compared to the joy that the Xbox Live Arcade (XBLA )is. This Xbox service will be launched soon in India (that's what some Xbox officials say), so I guess this isn't such a bad time to introduce our fellow Indians to the wonder that the XBLA is.
The Classics
In this article you would get to know the XBLA, and not about the Live service, as that particular topic will be covered only when Live is introduced in India.
The XBLA is what Captain Kirk was to the Enterprise, it's a boon to the gaming industry. What XBLA does is that it gives us what we thought was lost forever in the web of time. Well, let me elaborate - Remember the feature about the classic games? Now imagine playing some of them on your LCD, with graphical enhancements and Stereo sound.
I downloaded the trial version of a few classic games and was amazed to find the games so true to the originals, yet so refined. All the following five games that you will read about below have been re-created for the XBLA, and are available for a small fee of $12 for the full versions. Although, most of you might think that paying $12 for an old game doesn't make sense; you may want to reconsider. These games are pure entertainment, without the need to jump around your house with a white nunchuck or shatter your LCD screen (Reference: The Wii, for those who are less on the Gray, Reference: Brian). As I mentioned earlier, I downloaded and played 5 games on my Xbox. Here's their list and ratings in reverse order, enjoy!
Number 5: Paper Boy

Has anyone played this game? I remember playing Paper Boy for 5 minutes when I was a kid. I enjoyed it so much that I remember it even today. The game was a major hit in the 80's making it a favorite among many. Your job in this vividly colored, 2D, top-down view game was to deliver papers to your daily subscribers. You also had to avoid road-hazards at the same time and make sure that you make no mistakes while delivery. If you haven't played this game, then you might think it sounds too childish; but in the same context, I guess a 3 feet tall Italian plumber jumping over mushrooms makes no sense either, but I don't see Mario having a problem. The game was remade for the XBLA and it looks exactly like the original with a few noticeable additions. A great classic and well made for the Xbox 360.
Number 4: Double Dragon

I'm sure most of you remember Jimmy and Billy, the kick-ass duo. The Double Dragon (DD) was a cult-classic and a game that made people wanna be tough. Its XBLA version is skillfully redone with awesome graphics and really catchy tunes. The game starts off just like the original and consists of the same moves. The high-flying kicks, the round-about kick (that's what I called it), and the crazy thugs carrying all sorts of weapons. They don't make games like DD anymore, therefore we are lucky to have it on XBLA.
